Familiar Shapes in a New Light. František Jungvirt Unveils a Collection of Original Lighting Fixtures at the Volman Villa, Inspired by the Lines of His Signature Vases

Glass artist and designer František Jungvirt is expanding his portfolio into a new category by introducing a collection of lighting designs. Their morphology is based on the author’s vase editions: Garden Basic, Toy, and Bloom. This new segment allows Jungvirt to approach interiors comprehensively, ranging from smaller accessories and light installations to standalone artworks and monumental glass sculptures. The lighting collection was launched at the Volman Villa in Čelákovice as part of DesignBlok 2026, which this year centers around the theme of Light.

Entering the category of lighting objects marks a significant shift in František Jungvirt’s work. Yet, the idea of creating his own fixtures had been maturing for several years. Until now, he worked with light only in relation to vases, designing their shapes and surfaces to engage in a visual dialogue with light rays. Now, however, he has decided to integrate light directly into his design, defining its character himself.

“The interest and direct demand from architects and interior designers confirmed that my thoughts regarding lighting objects were heading in the right direction. They used my vases in their designs, and some were so captivated by their morphology that they wanted to work with it on a larger scale in interiors, breathing a new, functional role into it,” says František Jungvirt, describing the path to his latest collection.

Signature Shapes in a New Light
The lighting collection is based on the intimately familiar lines of František Jungvirt’s vases. The first of these is Garden Basic – a vase in its purest form. Lighting objects derived from this series work with subtle, earthy colors and matte or glossy surfaces. Playfulness in Jungvirt’s work is represented by the wavy curves of the Toy edition, evoking a sense of childhood lightheartedness, as well as the fluidity of glass. In the form of lighting, it brings a dynamic element to minimalist interiors. The third part of the collection builds upon the Bloom vases, characterized even in the lighting fixture version by ruby glass and a heart shape, flooding the interior with a cozy, intimate light.

Jungvirt designed the lighting objects with an emphasis not only on aesthetics but also on their architectural versatility. They can be integrated into a space in various ways—for instance, as dominant standalone pieces or as large-scale cascading installations to illuminate spacious rooms, hotel lobbies, or commercial areas. The fixtures can also be suspended individually over bedside tables or reading corners.

Just like Jungvirt’s vases, the glass lighting fixtures are created by mouth-blowing into wooden molds. This is followed by hand-cutting and matting, or conversely, polishing to a high gloss. Finally, the light fixture is fitted with a custom-designed metal mount.

Premiere Set Against the Backdrop of Interwar Avant-Garde
The glass artist presented his latest work to the public during DesignBlok 2026, whose theme this year is Light. The premiere took place in the functionalist Volman Villa in Čelákovice, Czech Republic, where the lights will remain installed until the end of the year 2026. Visitors can view them here as part of regular guided tours. Afterward, they will move to František Jungvirt’s showroom in Košíře, Prague. In January 2027, the collection will have its international premiere at Maison & Objet in Paris, a trade fair focused on design.

The lighting fixtures are available made-to-order.
