25th CONTI Film Festival Tennis Cup, Karlovy Vary

The 25th CONTI Film Festival Tennis Cup took place as part of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The tournament was founded in 1999 by businessman Bronislav Cienciala and the recently deceased KVIFF president Jiří Bartoška, to whom this year’s anniversary edition was dedicated. During the day-long tennis tournament, famous personalities from the cultural and business worlds meet on the court, and at the end of the tournament, the winner leaves with a trophy. This year, the co-organizer Henceforth asked me to design and implement the aforementioned prize for the winner – I was happy to take on this pleasant task.

To make the award not only representative but also original, I decided to design it as a vase. I started from my handwriting and morphology, and the realization took place in the Ajeto glassworks in Lindava (in collaboration with Sklo Suchánek and master glass cutter Jiří Štencl), where most of my works are created. Thanks to the sandblasting technique, the trophy has a slightly matte, almost velvety surface, and the name of the tournament and its year are engraved in the lower part. The royal blue that I chose for this object only underlines its extraordinary purpose, and at the same time represents the color of CONTI, which organizes the tournament. And who took home this trophy? The team of hockey player Roman Červenka – congratulations!

However, the Karlovy Vary tennis tournament is not only about sports and entertainment. The event has long been associated with supporting charity projects. And I am really happy that I was able to contribute in this way. During the gala evening, my Trifid vase was auctioned, and its new owner paid 118 thousand crowns for it. This amount subsequently significantly contributed to the total proceeds of 200 thousand crowns, with which the organizers supported the activities of the Sue Ryder organization helping seniors and their families this year.
