About project

A unique series of 10 artistic collectible objects.

Each object is one piece unique.

The functionalist Volman Villa was one of the most beautiful private residences during the First Republic, and today it rightfully belongs among them again. At the time of its construction, it served not only as a residence for the family, but also as a representation. Many formal and purely friendly meetings took place here, and the house was regularly visited by artists and other distinguished guests. Today, we continue this tradition and the space is once again being revived with works of art by contemporary young talents.

One of the artists in residence is glass artist František Jungvirt, who this season has teamed up with multidisciplinary artist Pavlína Šváchová. Their joint collection of collectible objects work with Jungvirt’s significant Garden series, which, due to its minimalistic morphology, represents a vase in its purest form. Jungvirt repeatedly returns to this shape, expanding the Garden series with additional pieces and limited editions, as well as adding new color shades.

Šváchová created a removable glass sculpture-drawing for the vases from the Garden series, elevating them to an art object. Using heat, she transforms a glass rod into a drawing line that emerges from a two-dimensional plane into space and acquires a sculptural quality. She positions these abstract forms as materialized drawings that push the boundaries of traditional media perception. A key element of her work is the direct processing of glass, thanks to which an authentic authorial gesture is projected into the work. The artistic form deliberately imitates various styles of drawing and painting, including children’s drawings, which also embody the power of artistic freedom.

Both Jungvirt and Šváchová like to walk the fine line between design and art. And sometimes they completely destroy it. Similar to the case of this collection of theirs, where an object can serve as a vase one day and as a work of art the next. Together they then complete the interior of Villa Volman – with their objects they partially complement the space, but at the same time they introduce a surprising, playful element into the villa, which at first glance is obvious that it does not belong to the period of functionalism. Sometimes they let the vase stand out together with the relief, other times it almost blends in with the interior.
