Contrast & Balance is an exhibition that connects the work of painter Simi Čekovská and glass artist František Jungvirt in the Tower 5 Gallery space. It represents a dialogue between abstract-figurative painting and the author’s blown glass — two different visual languages that enter into a relationship of tension, symbiosis and balance. Čekovská works with reduced figuration, in which female figures appear through flat color fields, iconic features and rhythmic lines in a neo-figurative expression. Jungvirt creates glass vases using the mouth-blown technique in a wooden mold, which he realizes in cooperation with master glassmakers in Czech glassworks and finishes them by hand so that each work carries a unique character of color, shape and surface quality. Their works complement each other in the exhibition and create a visual balance in which the contrast between painting and glass opens up a new context for the perception of form, color and material.
