Color lines. A solo exhibition of František Jungvirt is taking place in the Neumannka Gallery, Prachatice in the South of Bohemia.

Glass designer, artist and glass painter František Jungvirt returns after a long time with a solo exhibition. It is a cross-section of current work, in which references to traditional Czech glassmaking are mixed with his own invention. The name Color lines then points to one of the characteristic features of Jungvirt’s works, which is the play with colors and hand-painted motifs. The exhibition runs until July 24, 2024 in the Gallery Neumannka

František Jungvirt’s last Czech solo exhibition took place in 2022 at the Glass Museum in Nový Bor, where he symbolically said goodbye to his studies. Since then he has exhibited mainly abroad, for example in Italy as part of The Venice Glass Week (collective exhibition CZECH GLASS | FRAGILE) or Milan Design Week (collective exhibition Made by Fire, which can now be seen in the Moravian Gallery, and Doppia Firma). Last year he also exhibited in Bern, Switzerland at the Embassy of the Czech Republic and this year at the Go-Green-Art Gallery in Zurich. Now it is possible to see his work in the primitive Neumannka Gallery at the solo exhibition Color lines.

Between design and art

The title refers to the colorful variety and hand-painted motifs typical of Jungvirt’s work. A fantastic world full of colors, structures and organic and noble shapes opens up to the visitors of the Neumannka Gallery. A world where exaggeration and playfulness alternate with more serious themes and a display of craftsmanship. In his work, Jungvirt most often uses the traditional references of Czech glassmaking to which he gives a new expression. With each piece, he tries to advance the technical and visual possibilities of the field, usually in collaboration with glass masters, grinders and modelers who are among the best in their field.

The exhibition represents a cross-section of current work, and not only in the field of design. In addition to the significant Garden vases, the shape of which Jungvirt returns to repeatedly, there are also works on the border between art and design. These include, for example, the latest collection of collectible Plush Animals vases, which are decorated with three-dimensional small creatures – fish, frogs and lizards. The scope of Jungvirt’s activity extends to the field of art, which is as important to him as design, and in his work both levels often intersect. Free creation is his escape from the world of product design into fantasy realms and experiments, represented here by art objects from the Fashion Glass series.

All three positions, which are now connected within the framework of one exhibition, then bear a common denominator: colored lines. These can now be explored in the Neumannka Gallery, the exhibition runs until July 24, 2024.
