The SENTIENT PLANTS collectible vase-object project follows on from my previous artistic floral editions – Frangible Scenery, Floral Creatures, but also Trifid vases.
The symmetrical form of the vase is now adjusted by cutting and metal forming. The vase thus becomes a living substance again in the metal. I enhanced that liveliness by abstracting and completing the cuts into the shapes of toothed leaves, twisted ferns. The goal was to approach forms related to plants and their life, growth, behavior and adaptation to predators and their various living conditions.
The glass shape thus becomes a breathing organism and we perceive it more as a living being, a plant or a sci-fi entity – a triffid.
Each piece is unique, mouth-blown and tightly shaped.
The vase-objects are a demonstration of perfect craftsmanship.
The hand-modeled details, which are a faithful imitation of living plants down to the last detail, were created by glass master Martin Štefánek from Desná, Czech republic.
The objects are part of the Off the Beaten Track exhibition at The Chemistry Gallery, on view until March 1, 2026.
